Buses to other destinations

If you’re looking for a long-distance trip from the airport to neighbouring cities, popular routes are available from Boryspil to Cherkasy, Poltava, Dnipro and Kharkiv.

The Boryspil airport authorities also operate a shuttle bus service running between the terminals and the airport hotel.

So if you’re planning to rest for a while at the airport hotel, or travel quickly from one terminal to another, you may consider this option. Their departure timings can be found here.

Although buses are economical, they offer limited luggage room. So consider renting a private car or getting a taxi if you’re arriving with heavy luggage.

Renting a car

Car rentals are beneficial for those who plan to arrive with a lot of baggage which cannot be easily fitted in the limited luggage space present in public transports like buses and trains.

It can also help if you’re planning to arrive in a group or coming with someone possessing disabilities.

  • There are many self-drive rental companies with varying prices to help you get around Kiev

  • The popular ones are SIXT, Europcar, Avis, Budget and addCar who have their counters at the terminal

  • Prices differ with class ranging from €43 (economy) to above €90 (passenger van)

  • You can also book an English speaking private chauffeur who knows the city well and will take you to your hotel with ease

  • The driver will be waiting for you at the arrivals section with a placard reading your name

It is advised to book at least three weeks from before to get below-average prices. All bookings made can be cancelled 48 hours before the car hire period.

If you chose a self drivable rental, bring your original passport, driver’s license and credit card with you. Foreign licenses require an English translation for verifications.

The rental companies also require a fixed deposit to be made prior to the ride starting period.

Although significantly costlier, private rentals let you quickly get out of the airport and zoom past city traffic.

Getting a taxi

Boryspil airport offers its own line of airport taxis which feature trained drivers and modern cars. The prices are fixed and are paid according to the displayed price on the taxi meter.

The official airport taxis offer ample luggage space and are fully air-conditioned. You can find them waiting right at the first line outside terminal D. Their operations number is (097)828-98-64. You can find more information here.

However, keep in mind that airport taxis tend to be costlier because of their better service and parking fees which drivers have to pay upfront before entering the airport.

You can also get other public and private taxis outside the airport. However, be aware that they have a tendency for overcharging tourists.

  • Always negotiate on a fixed price before entering the taxi to avoid getting ripped off

  • The average rate charged is 7-10 UAH per kilometre, it can be a bit more for foreigners

  • If you’re planning to travel to the city centre, rates are expensive, around 35-60 UAH per kilometre because of the congested routes

  • Communication can be a problem if you don’t have your destination written down because most drivers do not speak English

For English speaking taxi services, you can try Happy Go Taxi and Lingo Taxi. Apart from taxis, you can also book an Uber through their mobile app or use Bolt.
